The cameras weren’t the difference.
Oceania Film Company had grown quickly from start-up into a respected production business, with strong craft, trusted client relationships and work across corporate, industrial, government and brand content.
As the business matured, the team made a deliberate decision to sharpen its focus and become clearer about the kind of work and clients it wanted to be known for next.
The capability was broad. The harder question was what made Oceania meaningfully different.
The Challenge
Video production is a crowded market, and most capable production companies can point to good equipment, experienced crews, strong visuals and polished work. Those things matter, but they’re also increasingly expected.
If Oceania continued to describe itself primarily through production capability, it risked being compared as another good video supplier rather than valued for the broader contribution it was making to the communication itself.
Hum’s job was to find the value beyond “we make great video”.

The Insight
Through our work with the team, the strongest difference kept coming back to people.
Oceania was particularly good at creating the conditions for real people to show up naturally on camera. They understood how to put contributors at ease, shape performance without making it feel performed, and find the human moments underneath corporate language.
But it went further than making nervous people comfortable. The same sensibility shaped the storytelling. Oceania looked for the people, emotion and meaning inside a business story, then used documentary-style craft, interviewing, direction, lighting and production to make that humanity visible.
The technical craft was strong. The human craft was the more interesting proposition.
Hum’s Role
Hum worked with Oceania to identify that value, test it against the category and turn it into a clearer position for the next stage of the business.
Rather than building the brand around cameras, production capability or a long service list, we helped Oceania articulate what clients were actually getting from the way the team worked.
That meant repositioning the business from a video supplier towards a corporate content partner, with a clearer role in helping businesses communicate in a way that feels credible, relatable and genuinely human.
The Brand Platform
That thinking became the Core Value Proposition:
We make business feel human.
The line holds two ideas together. The first is human performance: creating the right environment for people to be comfortable, confident and believable on camera. The second is human storytelling: finding the real people and meaning behind a business story and shaping it into content an audience can connect with.
The craft supports the promise rather than becoming the promise itself. That gave Oceania a much stronger place to compete than simply claiming better production.
The Work
The positioning gave the team a clearer narrative for pitches, credentials and client conversations, but it also created a useful internal standard.
If Oceania was going to promise to make business feel human, that idea needed to influence how the team approached briefs, interviewed contributors, directed performances, shaped stories and worked with clients throughout the process.
One clear proposition now connects how the business presents itself with how the work is actually made.
The Outcome
Oceania now has a clearer way to explain what it does, why its approach matters and the role it wants to play for clients.
The business didn’t need to invent a new capability. The strategy identified the value already being created in its best work and gave the team the language to make that value easier to recognise.
That clarity gives Oceania a stronger foundation for pursuing the kind of clients and projects it wants more of, without reducing the business to another list of production services.
Is your capability stronger than the way you explain it?
Sometimes the business already has the difference. It just hasn’t identified, articulated or positioned it clearly enough for the market to value. Hum helps businesses find what genuinely makes them worth choosing and turn it into a position they can build from.
